Need Some Mommy Advice!

Do any of you mommy's out there recommend a certain brand of bottles or pacifiers? Or do you have any other "must have" baby items that I should know about.

Allen and I are coming home in December (just for Christmas, not for good!) and so I am trying to register for some basics for my family and friends. I talked to my sister about a lot of things but could use any advice you all might have. Everything here is pretty expensive so we are trying to get some good basics while we are in the states. A friend here gave me a bunch of clothes from 0-18 months which is GREAT!

So, if you have any thoughts I would love to hear them. I am registering at Target and Babies R Us, so if something isn't available at those stores let me know.

Thank you!!!

  1. Sara, I always stand by pampers diapers and huggies wipes. I also like aquaphor for diaper rash issues, lavender bath soap and those sweet little gowns that are open at the bottom. These are the best especially when they are small and have so many diapers to change. Hope this helps some. Heather Bledsoe

  2. Let's see- I just used the playtex Drop In bottles and drop-in's to go in them ( are you planning on breastfeeding?)- I have friends who loved both Dr Browns and Avent but the playtex always worked great for us and I LOVED not having as many parts to wash!! Tallon used both the both the MAM and Playtex pacifiers.
I LOVED and we used a TON of Desitin Creamy diaper rash ointment (tallon has eczema and so we have had TONS of diaper rash and skin issues). I, too- really like the pamper swaddler diapers but once we got out of the stage 2 swaddlers- we went to generic walmart or target brand and they worked fine. although we had to use the Huggies wipes all the way thru until potty training time bc the generic wipes caused MAJOR skin issues.
I am sooo excited for you- will you guys be in SC anytime while you are home- are you having a shower in SC- I would LOVE to come up and see you (of course with Tess due Dec 3rd i will prob be iffy- but let me know and If I can- I will be there!! praying for you!

  3. Sara,
PAMPERS SWADDLERS!! Don't waste time /money/laudry detergent dealing with Huggies or anything else. For me it is worth the extra few cents to not have to change clothes with every diaper change. I can count on one hand the number of blowouts I've had with swaddlers in 4 months. I also have only needed to use diaper rash cream maybe 5-6 times with swaddlers. We also liked the larger, thermal-type, blankets to wrap her up in. I use Dr. Brown's bottles when she takes a bottle, but she is nursing exclusively still so I don't have as much experience with bottles as others may.

  4. Hey Sara,
How exciting to find your clothes. Oh course, I am a "old" mom so I have no advise on bottles, diapers, etc. Things have so improved and come so far since my baby birthing days. Oh, what a sweet time of life. Enjoy!!!
I would highly recommend the book, BabyWise. Gary and Anne Ezzo have wonderful advise and instruction on parenting. As with any parenting advise, it may not "work" for your child. The beauty is you can read the information, use what works, don't worry about the rest.
    Stay warm.

  5. Sara,

    Diapers - Pampers swaddlers
    Diaper creme - Flanders
Bottles - Avent or Playtex Vent Aire (Dr. Browns had lots of parts to wash)
Soap - Johnsons Head to Toe Body Wash (we still use this on Kate at 19 months!)

    Other essentials:
burpcloths (best to use thick cloth diapers), washcloths (you will use a TON once you start baby food), pack n play (for setting up sleep/containment in an alternate location), high chair (we LOVE our portable booster seat!), Baby Bjorn with lumbar support, a good lightweight stroller, nursing pillow and supportive chair, food processor (for making your own baby food . . "SUPER BABY FOOD" a good resource)

Using a pacifier a lot may change Ben's suck . . and if you are planning to nurse it may cause you discomfort with nursing (i know from personal experience!) so use with caution!
    Miss you! Lisa Pierce

  6. Sara,
So excited to be able to read and share in this wonderful experience Oh, the joy of a little one! I loved pampers swaddlers when Alex was small. I later switched to wal-mart brand, which work well once their skin isn't so sensitive. I loved avent bottles. They seemed to vent the best, and believe me, I tried MANY brands! I'm so excited for you two! Would love to be able to send you something for Benjamin. How? Love ya, Becky
