I need some advice for some activities to do inside with a very active one year old. We live on the third floor of an apartment building with no elevator. Right now it is fine, we go out and take walks, etc. However, once Nate is born I know my freedom to go out and about in the heat of the summer will decrease. We are coming to the states in May and I would like to pick up some craft stuff and activities for us to do here in the house. Any thoughts? We don't have MOPS or anything like that so he really doesn't do anything. Plus, craft stuff is super expensive if you can find it here. What do your kids do at day care or at sunday school or mothers morning out?
Also, we need to buy some sippy cups too. Any thoughts?
Thank you!
Big Legos are a hit for our two right now. Sticker crafts can entertain them for a good 15-20 mins. They also enjoy "reading" so we have lots of books around for them.
ReplyDeleteFor sippy cups we "endorse" Playtex - they have the best valves & for the older drinkers come insulated - very helpful with milk so I don't worry so much about it being out of the refrig. The boys also have Nalgene kiddy bottles that we use for water - mostly leak-proof & very sturdy.

Hope this helps!
Love the Nalgenes, they are indestructible.
ReplyDeleteAs for activities, Charlotte loves stickers, crayons, and maybe Allen could make you a little slide to keep in the apartment for Ben?
save your kleenex boxes, papertowel & tp rolls, cereal boxes, etc and then you fashioon them into the most FANTASTIC little village. the perfect size for matchbox cars. let him decorate witrh stickers and you can eve cut out some extra tunnels, windows, draw bridges- it's GREAT fun!
ReplyDeleteDuplo Blocks are the "technical" name for the Big Legos if you're looking for them. They also come with people and animals which the kids at church really enjoy.
ReplyDeleteSorting games are always great too (sorting through colors, shapes, etc.).
Pull n' Talk toys are lots of fun. The ones where you pull a lever or string and it makes a dial spin around and land on an animal/letter, then proceeds to make some kind of sound.
Musical anything the kids at church love, and the books that talk to them are a big hit.
As far as crafts go, we've used "pudding" to finger paint, cause that's fun and easy and if the kids eat it, it's fine.
Bubbles and playdough are fun too.
You can even find a few recipes for "playdough" wanna-bees like mashed potatoes, gravy, thick frosting, etc. Again, it's messier, but you don't have to keep as close an eye on him cause he can eat it!
Those are the ideas I have right now. I'll see if I can come up with a few more too :-).
